ABSTRACT

PurposeThis study analyzes in-depth how knowledge-intensive small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) can achieve higher new product development (NPD) process performance in the epidemic era and examine the internal development mechanism of knowledge-intensive SMEs in the process of continuous digital transformation.Design/methodology/approachThis issue is tested with partial least squares on data collected via a survey conducted from November 2021 to February 2022. The sample comprises 487 knowledge-intensive SMEs operating in China.FindingsThe results indicate that one form of cross-functional ambidexterity, market development strategy (MDS), plays an important role in process performance from an inside-out financial perspective and an outside-in customer perspective. Simultaneously, product innovation efficiency (PIE) mediates the relationship between MDS and the above results. Big data analytics capabilities (BDACs) positively regulate the relationship between MDS and PIE.Research limitations/implicationsThe authors do not consider other contingency factors. Future research should introduce influential factors such as leadership and competitive intensity to further distinguish the effects of MDS on NPD process performance.Practical implicationsThe study findings offer suggestions to help knowledge-intensive SME managers better manage their NPD process by making better use of their limited resources in developing countries such as China.Originality/valueThis study is one of only a few to adopt a process-oriented perspective to specifically examine how one form of cross-functional ambidexterity, MDS, impacts knowledge-intensive SME process performance in the epidemic era. This study also extends the theoretical framework of cross-functional ambidexterity to BDAC research.

ABSTRACT

Affected by the new coronavirus pneumonia from the year 2019 to 2022, the economic development of the tourism industry was bleak. According to data released by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, domestic tourism revenue in 2019 was 5.73 trillion yuan. In 2020, under the impact of the epidemic, the domestic tourism market has entered a low stage, with annual domestic tourism revenue of 2.23 trillion yuan, down 61.07 % year-on-year. Judging from the situation of people's travel in recent years, the development of tourism is growing. Under the epidemic, the tourism industry was pressed the pause button and the expected recovery is full of uncertainty. The epidemic has brought great challenges to the tourism industry, but it is not impossible to break through. This will be a good time for transformation and upgrading. If the tourism industry wants to make more stable and better pace of development, more intelligent information construction services need to be created into it in order to achieve breakthrough and develop characteristic products. In the era of marine economy in the 21st century, island tourism is an important part of the marine industry group. It is favored because it gives tourists a psychological feeling of staying away from the hustle and bustle of the city and returning to nature completely. The island has become a popular attraction in the world. In view of this, it is of great significance to summarize the research on island tourism. Taking Nan'ao Island in Guangdong as an example, this paper analyzes the existing problems of island tourism and formulates corresponding marketing strategies, aiming at improving its competitiveness in the travel industry and forming differentiated competitive advantages. ABSTRACT

The purpose of the study is to identify and evaluate the impact of knowledge dynamics processes on the effectiveness of the project implementation of changes in product distribution channels under conditions of the COVID-19 pandemic. Implementation of changes is a result of external circumstances related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Adaptation activities can be based on project management aimed at changing existing distribution channels in a turbulent environment. With reference to the considerations presented in the study, it can be pointed out that knowledge management processes allow to observe and describe changes in the environment, indicating the justification of emerging threats and opportunities in the company's environment and the company's response, particularly under COVID-19 pandemic conditions, which fills an identified research gap. The implication from the research is that there is a significant impact of external conditions, shaped by the COVID-19 pandemic, on the implemented project of changing sales in different distribution channels, which can be neutralized by the effectiveness of knowledge management in the company. The research methods used to achieve the stated objective are literature study, descriptive analysis and case study. The empirical research was based on a company making its sales in the European market. The study period was 2018-2020. The research problem is important and current issue because of possibility of achieving companies knowledge increment and increase the effectiveness of project implementation in the perspective of changes in the external environment. © 2022, Academic Conferences and Publishing International Limited. ABSTRACT

Sungai Raya village is one of the entrances to Kubu Raya Regency so it has the potential to be used as a stop-over location and tourism storefront for Kubu Raya Regency. Sungai Raya Village has a lot of tourism potential that has not been explored, not packaged, and has not been marketed optimally. This study aims to analyze the tourism potential of Sungai Raya Village and formulate a strategic design for the development of Sungai Raya Village for sustainable tourism development in the Kubu Raya Regency. This study uses a qualitative research approach. The existence of these tourism potentials has received a good response from tourists, but since the Covid-19 pandemic, there have been fewer tourists. Agro-tourism, tourism, culinary, and selfie tourism have not been packaged properly and have not been promoted properly. In addition, some of the challenges faced are: the condition of the access road to the location is still not good, the handrails are still made of wood and are starting to become brittle, and the human resource constraints are still low in their ability to manage Tourism Villages, and coordination with tourism forest manager’s area is still weak. The results of this study are very useful to be submitted as material for policymakers to formulate tourism development policies in Kubu Raya Regency. © 2022, Association Res Militaris. ABSTRACT

The Covid-19 outbreak has had a negative impact on the decline in the number of visits in the tourism sector, one of which is the tourist village. The recovery of tourist villages during Covid-19 relies heavily on the role of the Tourism Awareness Community (Pokdarwis). However, the role of the Tourism Awareness Community in the development of tourist villages during Covid-19 is still not clearly discussed. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the tourism village development strategy during COVID-19 by the Tourism Awareness Community in the Teritip Village, Balikpapan-Indonesia. This study uses the QSPM (Quantitative Strategic Planning Matrix) method, which is a method for determining the priority of alternative strategies obtained from a SWOT analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats). The results showed that the position of the Tourism Awareness Community was in quadrant V (Hold and Maintain), namely market penetration and product development strategies. That is, the professional management of tourist villages is crucial to increasing the number of tourist visits. The management of the tourist village must be able to optimize the resources they have to develop a tourist village in the Teritip Village. In addition, the development of attractive tour packages is also the key to attracting tourists. Therefore, strengthening human resources related to the professionalism of tourism village management is very necessary in order to advance tourism villages. © 2022 Editura Universitatii din Oradea. ABSTRACT

In this research, the case study of the municipality of Los Cabos Baja California Sur, Mexico is presented, with the objective of analyzing recovery strategies, to increase the resilience of tourist destinations, when they face attacks from external factors that threaten their stability and development; The methodology is qualitative, with an exploratory, descriptive and explanatory scope, interviews were carried out with key stakeholders of the tourist destination, with an exploratory script validated by experts at 97%, including profile dimensions, impact scenarios, resilience strategies, and recovery phases, the statistics of the destination and a virtual ethnography were compared, which allowed a broader vision of the problems and the evaluation of the response in two aspects: the COVID-19 pandemic (SARS-CoV-2);and the response analysis on the impact of Hurricane Odile in 2014. The main results showed that the participation of public and private actors related to public policy regarding tourism is central. Although Los Cabos has come out of various crises and currently has a walking strategy that has allowed a small recovery, there is no way to determine a realistic approach to the economic recovery of the destination. The impact on the poorly diversified economy of the region makes it difficult to sustain the operation of companies and the jobs of the population. Biosafety indicators for tourists and residents should be incorporated into good practices in the sector and the resilience strategies of the tourist destination.

ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION: The ongoing epidemic of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) creates a massive panic worldwide due to the absence of effective medicines. Developing a new drug or vaccine is time-consuming to pass safety and efficacy testing. Therefore, repurposing drugs have been introduced to treat COVID-19 until effective drugs are developed. AREA COVERED: A detailed search of repurposing drugs against SARS-CoV-2 was carried out using the PubMed database, focusing on articles published 2020 years onward. A different class of drugs has been described in this article to target hosts and viruses. Based on the previous pandemic experience of SARS-CoV and MERS, several antiviral and antimalarial drugs are discussed here. This review covers the failure of some repurposed drugs that showed promising activity in the earlier CoV-pandemic but were found ineffective against SARS-CoV-2. All these discussions demand a successful drug development strategy for screening and identifying an effective drug for better management of COVID-19. EXPERT OPINION: Repurposed drugs have been used since COVID-19 to eradicate disease propagation. Drugs found effective for MERS and SARS may not be effective against SARS-CoV-2. Drug libraries and artificial intelligence are helpful tools to screen and identify different molecules targeting viruses or hosts.

ABSTRACT

The rapid development of e-commerce industry has put forward higher requirements on the speed, safety, reliability and low price of logistics services, and China Railway Highspeed Express (CRHE) has ushered in a broad market prospect because it meets these requirements very well. Firstly, according to the SWOT analysis of CRHE in Guangxi, propose that its strengths are transportation network, speed, safety and stability and cost effectiveness, weaknesses are informatization and operation process, opportunities are national and local policies, threats are competition in the industry and COVID-19. After that, make an attempt of making four strategic combinations, and make a strategic decision of strengths-opportunities combination through comparison. Finally propose many measures to ensure the implementation of the strategy: seizing the external opportunities by following up the polities and giving full play to the strengths by increasing investment in capital and technology, adjusting the management mode, determining annual production target reasonably and cooperating with other express enterprises. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

ABSTRACT

The sugar industry plays an important role in the Russian economy and the southern Russian regions are the main producers of sugar in Russia (the Southern Federal District ranks the second in the production of white sugar). The specificity of sugar production is expressed in its high dependence on producers of beet raw materials, as well as in the presence of a significant amount of various types of waste, faces many problems of sustainable development in the sugar industry. The purpose of this article is to identify strategic factors for the sustainable development of sugar production, taking into account the challenges and threats of the new reality. In the study of strategic factors of sustainable development of the sugar industry, the authors identify demand factors and supply factors, as well as risk factors and stress factors. It is proved that the main threat to the sustainable development of the sugar industry is currently expressed in the risks of breaking supply chains in the conditions of the crisis caused by Coronavirus. This study focuses on the risk of stability reduction of the supply of beet raw materials. This risk is directly connected with the level of development of beet production in the region. As a result of the analysis, it was revealed that a decrease in the cultivated areas of sugar beet in the Southern Federal District is a stressful factor in the development of sugar industry. To solve this problem, state subsidies are proposed for projects for the development of abandoned agricultural land for beet cultivation. The solution of the problems of environmental sustainability growth of sugar production is associated with the circular economy models. It is concluded that the strategic factors of sustainable development of sugar industry in the South of Russia are directly connected with technological innovations in the agro-industrial sphere of the region, the implementation of which is largely determined by the level of state support for the industry.

ABSTRACT

The relevance of this article is due, on the one hand, to the importance of the oil and gas industry in the development of Iraq and, on the other hand, the inability to enhance the existing capacities of the gas industry due to both serious systemic internal causes and external problems. The objective of this article is to study the prospects of the gas industry in conjunction with the oil industry, and develop a strategy for their development based on the forecasting of future scenarios. In the article, the research methods used included a systematic analysis of economic, social and cultural conditions, considering the history of Iraq, including a review of statistical data and a variety of sources. The article proposes a method for choosing the industry development strategy on the basis of an analytical hierarchy process, based on an algorithm of iterative processes using an analysis of hierarchies. To clarify the actors’ policies and strategic goals and to find the optimal solution, repeated iterations of the choice of strategy have been proposed. The strategies were divided into alternative strategies for future scenarios, which were evaluated in actions as able to achieve the goals by determining the consistency ratio and the consistency index. As a result of the study, we can highlight the analysis of the centralized system of oil and gas resources’ management that has developed in Iraq, which has a complicated “top-down” delegation of decisions and responsibility, with decisions made at the political level and resources distributed from above, which precludes individual industries from performing their functions, and also limits the effective implementation of strategic development priorities. The development factors for the gas industry in Iraq were identified and systematized with a rationale for the direction of the industry’s strategic development. Groups of factors were identified: market-affecting determinants of the development of the gas industry, as well as other considerations that may, to a lesser extent, affect the development of Iraq’s gas industry and the oil and gas complex as a whole. The results, assessing the significance of the actors’ goals, can be taken as a basis for development strategies for the oil and gas industry, to improve the contract system of the gas industry in conjunction with the oil industry.

ABSTRACT

In May 2018, the President of the Russian Federation disclosed national development goals of Russia, for the achievement of which a set of measures and tools was proposed, the central place in which was occupied by national projects. The events of 2020, primarily related to the pandemic of the coronavirus infection COVID-19 and the elimination of the negative socio-economic consequences of its spread, have become a serious test for the country. The termination or restriction of the work of numerous enterprises and organizations and even entire industries, the introduction of the mandatory self-isolation regime for citizens, the fall in oil prices, economic recession due to the decrease in both demand and supply are only part of the problems that required a prompt solution. The reallocation of resources and the allocation of additional funds to mobilize the health care system to ensure its readiness, to implement a package of anti-crisis measures in order to support business and the population have led to the need to revise previous plans. The article provides an overview of the most significant changes in updating national development goals, strategic documents, developing (adjusting) sets of measures, tools and measures aimed at achieving them, made in 2020 and expected to be implemented in 2021. The authors substantively examined from the standpoint of conceptual changes the provisions of the new Presidential Decree on national development goals, the modified unified plan for their achievement, modernized passports of national and federal projects that are part of them, many of which underwent serious structural changes to strengthen the specification of the impact area.

ABSTRACT

The global economy has been greatly impacted by Covid-19. As a result, McDonald's devised a plan to form a partnership with BTS and make a collaborative product that is BTS Meal. The strategy used by McDonald's is market development. The purpose of this study is to learn about the most important aspects of active social media engagement among followers of a food and beverage sales organization, as well as the impact of social media engagement rate on new product sales. The research provides empirical evidence that highly engaged social media posts boost firm performance by increasing sales. Furthermore, the study provides a formula for success by utilizing text mining strategies to determine the most effective use of social media channels. Data collection was carried out by conducting literature studies, observations through McDonald's Instagram, Twitter, and Tiktok, data analysis, and a calculation of the engagement rate. The BTS Meal, that will be available in 49 countries, will offer a McDonald's menu and signature dipping sauce inspired by McDonald's South Korean sauces. This research is expected to show how the exposure generated from the high engagement rate can be used as an impact on McDonald's sales and brand in the future. © IEOM Society International.

ABSTRACT

Under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), China focuses on the ASEAN as part of land bridge connecting China to Southeast Asia, the Indian Ocean, and the China-Indochina Peninsula Corridor sea route that is the comprehensive sea route between China, South China Sea, Indian Ocean, and Europe. On the other hand, ASEAN member nations regard the BRI as an avenue to improve connectivity with their poor infrastructure development which will generate trade and investment increase in the region particularly through improved logistics. Accordingly, ASEAN member nations are keen to develop their infrastructure projects in collaboration with Chinese companies and funding agencies mainly in the forms of joint venture. The Asian Development Bank (ADB) estimates that the total infrastructure investment needs in the ASEAN from 2016 to 2030 will be between USD 2.8 trillion with baseline estimate to USD 3.1 trillion with climate adjusted estimate. This paper aims to argue how China and the ASEAN can be interacted by the BRI and what are impacts of the BRI on the region. Furthermore, it analyzes which roles do the BRI play in building the region between China and the ASEAN member nations. Last, but not least, it also focuses on Chinese national strategy how to implement the BRI in the region. © Universidad de Deusto

ABSTRACT

Lubenice on the island of Cres in Croatia is one of the most valuable examples of a small historic Mediterranean town. Although the settlement is protected as an immovable cultural property and is also on the list of cultural assets of the Republic of Croatia for inclusion on the UNESCO World Heritage List, developmental stagnation, continuous demographic decline, decay of part of the valuable building stock, inappropriate interventions on individual houses and the emergence of radical intervention initiatives in a time of change demand a systematic and comprehensive evaluation of the town’s cultural heritage. This article presents a methodology for the analysis of a cultural landscape using the example of Lubenice. The methodological approach is based on the analysis of the historical development and of natural, urban and architectural features of the cultural landscape. The components of the cultural landscape were evaluated using general and specific criteria. Conducting an evaluation according to this methodology provides guidelines for future interventions in order to improve the preservation of historic heritage and prevent damage by future interventions, while ensuring sustainable development.

ABSTRACT

Since the inception of China's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) in 2013, the associated infrastructure and transport and economic corridor developments have been widely addressed in the research field of transportation, logistics and supply chain management. Such developments open windows of opportunity for accommodating trade flows in new or upgraded intermediate hub nodes and gateway locations along the BRI corridors. This paper aims to propose strategic locations for global logistics distribution centers (LDCs) along the Belt and Road from the viewpoint of China, considering regional economic and trade blocks, maritime transport routes, China's overseas port developments, China Railway Express services, trade conflicts between China and US, and deteriorated mobility of resources and human power caused by COVID-19. We present a set of strategic locations for establishing LDCs by analyzing qualitative and quantitative facility location factors supported by the findings in existing literature. Eight locations for global LDCs are identified in the Sub-Saharan region, Sri Lanka, the Middle East, Northern Oceania, Southern Europe, Northern Europe, and key dry hub port locations in Minsk, Belarus and Northeast Asia along the Silk Road Economic Belt. Furthermore, we present a research agenda with applicable methods. © 2021 Elsevier Ltd

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the normative and regulatory support of the state policy of development of health resort business in Russia and organizational and methodological aspects of its implementation, including those in emergency and coronavirus pandemic. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The following current methods of community hygienic and medical-organizational research were applied: analytical, statistical, best practice study, monographic, etc. Data from state and departmental official sources, statistical books, scientific publications, and other sources were studied. RESULTS: The main normative, regulatory, organizational and methodological aspects of the strategy implementation, developed in accordance with the order of the Government of the Russian Federation «On approval of the development strategy of the health-resort complex of the Russian Federation¼ dated 26.11.18 №2581-p were analyzed. Some discrepancies in the state and departmental statistics of health-resort organizations were found. The nomenclature of the health-resort area was reviewed, and the used term «health-resort treatment¼ was criticized, which does not correspond to the parts of this type of daily practice medical care, unlike the concepts «health-resort care¼ or «health-resort business¼. The article presents the author's vision of the issue of normative and organizational support of health-resort organizations in an emergency such as COVID-19 pandemic since 2020. CONCLUSIONS: It is shown that the national and local experience of coronavirus infection control contributed to the development of a considerable number of federal regulatory documents in a short time frame. The publication describes an analysis and systematic review of the most important documents, including those related to the spa resorts. Addressing the demanding challenges of further development of the country's health-resort complex largely relies on the state of its facilities and resources. However, its objective analysis is hindered by the identified significant discrepancies in the state and departmental statistic data concerning the number of functioning health-resort organizations and its change over time. As opposed to the concept of «health-resort treatment¼, the term «health-resort care¼ most accurately describes its complexity.
